How to Type Emojis on Windows 10 & 11
Windows has had built-in emoji support since Windows 10, and it keeps getting better. Whether you're on Windows 10 or Windows 11, here's every way to type emojis without copying and pasting.
Method 1: Windows Key + Period (Win + .)
Press the Windows key and the period key (.) at the same time. This opens the emoji picker directly in any text field.
Once open, you can search for emojis by typing their name (like 'heart' or 'laugh'), click on any emoji to insert it, and use the tabs at the top to browse categories.
This works in virtually every app — Outlook, Word, Notepad, Chrome, Discord, Slack, and more.
Method 2: Windows Key + Semicolon (Win + ;)
An alternative shortcut — press Win + ; — opens the same emoji picker. Both shortcuts work the same way.
On some keyboard layouts (especially non-US layouts), only one of these shortcuts may work. Try both if one doesn't respond.
Method 3: Touch Keyboard
Right-click on your taskbar and select 'Show touch keyboard button'. Click the keyboard icon in the system tray.
On the touch keyboard, tap the smiley face icon in the bottom left to switch to emoji mode. Browse and tap to insert.
Method 4: Copy & Paste from PasteMoji
For rare or specific emojis, use PasteMoji.com to search, find, and copy any of 10,000+ emojis with one click. Then paste with Ctrl+V.
