🐶 entered Unicode 6.0 in 2010 and has consistently been among the top 30 most-used emojis. The friendly cartoon dog-face design was deliberate — Japanese carriers wanted an instantly-readable "warm" pet emoji. Dogs were domesticated 15,000+ years ago, the longest-running animal-human bond.

Use 🐶 for dog content, loyal-friend captions, pure joy moments. Pairs with 🦴 (bone), 🐾 (paw prints), 🏃 (running). Wholesome register — almost impossible to use ironically.
