Emoji 15.1 was released on September 12, 2023 and added 118 RGI sequences, most of them direction-facing variants. This page highlights six base concept sequences that appeared on more devices during 2024; it is not a list of every directional variant.

The Unicode Consortium releases emoji updates on a regular cadence. Emoji 15.1 introduced 6 new emoji characters, including new ZWJ sequences (emojis built by joining multiple characters with a Zero Width Joiner), new standalone characters, and skin-tone variations. These emojis are supported across iOS, Android, Windows, and major social platforms.
