Red, White, Blueliberty โ€” echoing France, the US and the UK

Flag History

Adopted: 1821

Parliament member Fredrik Meltzer designed it in 1821: Denmark's red-and-white cross (300 years of shared history) overlaid with a blue cross for the then-union with Sweden โ€” and for liberty, borrowing the tricolor palette of revolutionary nations.

Cut the Norwegian flag cleverly and it contains the flags of France, the Netherlands, Poland, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Thailand โ€” it's nicknamed "the mother of all flags."
