Bolivia's first flag appeared in 1825 after independence, and the stripes were reordered twice before President Manuel Isidoro Belzu fixed the red-yellow-green tricolor in 1851. Since the 2009 constitution, the tricolor shares official status with the Wiphala, the 49-square rainbow checkerboard of the Andean peoples.
