What the Colors Mean
Flag History
Blue and red were the livery colors of the princely household and were confirmed as the national flag in the 1921 constitution. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics the team discovered the flag was identical to Haiti's civil flag, so a gold princely crown was added to the hoist in June 1937. The crown's design was refined once more in 1982.
