Flag History

Adopted: 1928

Jordan's flag descends directly from the banner of the 1916 Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule, led by Sharif Hussein of Mecca, an ancestor of the current king. The Emirate of Transjordan added the seven-pointed white star in 1928 to set its flag apart from those of the revolt's other successor states.

โœจ Did you know?

The star's seven points stand for the seven verses of al-Fatiha, the Quran's opening chapter โ€” and that star is nearly the only thing separating Jordan's flag from Palestine's.
