Introduced on 21 October 2010 under the military-drafted 2008 constitution, replacing the 1974 socialist flag of red with a blue canton. The yellow-green-red tricolor closely resembles the flag of the 1943-45 State of Burma, with a single giant star replacing the old emblem of rice, a gear and 14 small stars.
