Adopted: 1972 (current version)

Based on the royal standard of the last Kandyan kings, with the sword-bearing golden lion. Stripes for the Tamil and Muslim communities were added in 1951; the four bo-tree leaves β€” kindness, compassion, joy, equanimity β€” completed it in 1972.
