Flag History

Adopted: 1975 (tricolor first adopted 1957)

Cameroon adopted its green-red-yellow tricolor in 1957, one of the first flags to take up the pan-African colors after Ghana. From 1961 to 1975 it bore two stars for the former British and French territories that federated to form the country; when the federation became a unitary state, they were replaced by a single 'star of unity'.

✨ Did you know?

You can read Cameroon's constitutional history in its stars: two stars while it was a federation of former British and French Cameroons, reduced to one in 1975 when the two states merged.
