Adopted: 1979 (self-government)

Designed by Emlain Kabua, the country's First Lady, and adopted on 1 May 1979 when the Marshalls gained self-government within the US-administered Trust Territory. The two diagonal rays trace the nation's parallel island chains, Ratak and Ralik, widening as they rise to symbolise growth.
