Four white starsThe four member states: Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae

Flag History

Adopted: 1978

Adopted on 30 November 1978 as the four states ratified their federation. It descends directly from the 1962 flag of the US-administered Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, which flew six white stars on United Nations blue.

โœจ Did you know?

The flag lost stars as the trust territory broke apart: six became four after the Northern Marianas, the Marshall Islands and Palau each went their own way.
