Flag History
Adopted on 1 January 1981, the day Palau's constitution took effect and the islands became self-governing within the US-administered Trust Territory. The winning entry in a national design competition came from John Blau Skebong, who set a plain golden disc on ocean blue. The flag flew unchanged through full independence in 1994.
